Nestled in the heart of Brazil's Sul de Minas region, where the Serra da Mantiqueira mountains create perfect microclimates for coffee cultivation, Roberto Bernardes has been perfecting his craft on the 20-hectare Sitio Taquara farm. The name "Taquara," meaning bamboo in Portuguese, reflects the natural harmony between this family operation and the surrounding Atlantic Forest ecosystem at 1,200 meters above sea level.

This exceptional Yellow Catuaí coffee represents the soul of Brazilian coffee culture, where tradition meets innovation in one of the world's most significant coffee-producing regions. Sul de Minas, responsible for 30% of Brazil's total coffee output, showcases the incredible diversity of Brazil's agricultural landscape. The region's unique terroir—characterized by volcanic soils, mild temperatures averaging 20°C, and distinct wet and dry seasons—creates ideal conditions for developing the complex tasting notes that have made Brazilian coffee legendary worldwide.

Roberto and his family employ the traditional natural processing method, where coffee cherries are sun-dried on raised beds, allowing the fruit's natural sugars to penetrate the bean. This time-honored technique, combined with the farm's high altitude and careful selective harvesting, produces coffee with exceptional body, subtle citric brightness, and rich chocolate undertones complemented by vibrant fruity aromatics.

As part of the Legender coffee buying group, founded in 2012 to support small-scale producers, Sitio Taquara represents the collaborative spirit that drives Brazil's specialty coffee movement. These partnerships ensure that farming families receive fair compensation while maintaining the quality standards that have positioned Brazil as the world's leading coffee producer, generating over $5 billion annually and employing millions across more than 300,000 farms.

Brazil's coffee industry, accounting for 6% of the nation's agricultural production value, continues to play a crucial role in both local and global economies. From the mountains of Minas Gerais to cups around the world, this coffee tells the story of dedication, terroir, and the enduring passion that makes Brazilian coffee an essential part of the global coffee landscape.
